Over the past several years I've put together a variety of
detailed maps as volunteer as well as just "for fun" projects. Some
highlights:
Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Trails Map:
Over a 4 month period in 2006, I mapped every trail on every Land Conservancy
property in the entire Palos Verdes Peninsula. As with most volunteer projects,
I received far more out of this project then I put in, developing a great
awareness of the diverse habitats around Palos Verdes and learning lots of
mapping tricks. The Conservancy still uses this data as a baseline comparison
to identify user impacts.
Point Mugu State Park Trails Map: Still a work in
progress. There are a lot of trails in this park!
Palos Verdes Fire Map: The Land Conservancy asked me
to map the perimeter of the August 2009 fire to provide an accurate measurement
of the acreage and footprint of the fire. By my measurements, this was a 181
acre fire with a 4.25 mile perimeter.
